About the Chinese Yuan in Pakistan
The yuan matters in Pakistan for trade rather than remittance. Importers sourcing from China, and businesses working on CPEC-linked projects, are the main holders of yuan cash.
The yuan is managed within a band rather than floating freely, and most China trade still settles in dollars, so counter demand for yuan cash is thinner than the size of the trading relationship would suggest.
Before you exchange CNY
Yuan is one of the harder currencies to find at a Pakistani counter at short notice. Larger branches in Karachi and Lahore are the reliable option.

Common questions
What is the CNY to PKR rate today?
One Chinese Yuan costs 42.80 Pakistani rupees to buy on the open market, and selling one gets you 41.10 rupees. This is the national open market rate, maintained by our editorial team and updated through the day — an individual counter may quote either side of it.
Why is the CNY rate at the counter different from the interbank rate?
The interbank rate is a wholesale price for trades between banks in size. A counter has to cover the cost of holding physical notes, the risk that the rate moves while it holds them, and its own margin. That gap is normal; what varies is how wide it is, which is why comparing branches is worth doing.
